As our population continues to grow, especially among older and younger age groups, public transit will remain an important means for residents to travel and to reduce congestion on our major corridors. The MPO coordinates with the public transit providers serving our area including:

• ITN of the Bluegrass (Independent Transportation Service)
• Federated Transportation Services of the Bluegrass 
• Bluegrass Community Action Partnership
•  Contact KY River Foothills 
• And other Kentucky County Medicaid providers (click here for full list)

The MPO also coordinates with:

• City planners to create more transit-oriented regional centers and corridors.
• Lextran to identify, fund and improve pedestrian access to transit stops including sidewalks, curb ramps and pedestrian crossings
• Lextran to install bus shelters along transit routes
• Nonprofit “VIA Creative” to install artistic bus shelters
